Robert W. Olson, Jr. first read the 1926 classic “Divots” by P.G. Wodehouse when he was ten years old, from a well-worn copy that originally belonged to his grandfather. The book never left him.

He has been a member of three private golf clubs in California, and has spent a lifetime hearing, observing, recalling, and — his former fellow members may now realize — writing down the stories that were never meant to leave the patio bar.

He lives in Southern California with his golf clubs and whatever remains of his social standing. Unlike Buster, he has only one ex-wife, and Dewey’s paperweight remains in his possession. The author wishes to note that he is unlikely to be invited to join another private club after this book is published. He is at peace with this.
